Our
second Team Z Motorsports Heads-Up Race of the season was even better the
second time around because we had the addition of Street Bike Shoot-Out
added on also! Not only do we have the fastest street cars coming out the
first Friday of each month to Milan Dragway, but we also see the fastest
street bikes here also. From the start, we knew we were going to have a
great Friday night. The weather was great, cars and spectators kept coming
into the track, and the stands were packed! The cars unloaded and went and
got teched in and they ran 2 qualifying rounds then we went right into the
.400 Pro Tree heads up race!
After
qualifying rounds were over, in the Team Z Heads Up category Tom Stevens
and his 87' Buick Grand National was the number one qualifier with a et of
9.232 at 149.42! Robert Armstrong was right behind Tom with a 9.294 at
149.07. In the Street-Bike Shoot-Out qualifying Brad Yoder was number one
with an 8.016 at the quarter mile at 175.35. Shane Ratliff was your number
two qualifier at 8.278 at 177.13. Eliminations started and the first pair
out in the Team Z Heads Up was Mike Farrell's 1988 Mustang going up
against Bill Riddle's 1969 Pontiac Firebird. Tree came down and Bill left
first with a .496 reaction against Mike's .585. It was close all the way
down, but Mike Farrell kept his lead and went into second round with a
9.025. Then next pair Tom Stevens tree'd Bruce Sneed with a .674 against
1.099. It paid off at finish line with Tom going to round two with 9.304.
At the end of round one it was Mike Farrell, Tom Stevens, Don Foess, and
Brad Hevwagen advancing into round two. Moving forward to round two when
it was Tom Stevens against Mike Farrell. Mike had the better reaction and
won that round with a 9.351. Next pair had a little trouble. It was Brad
Hevwagen and his quick Tyson Racing mustang against Don Foess's 85' Chevy
Chevette. Off the line Brad had the better reaction and was also able to
get down to the finish line first with an 9.08. Then we saw smoke coming
from Brad's car down track. Brad had turbo failure and left a little clean
up. We cleaned it up and went into next round of eliminations for the
Street Bike Shootout. But then Brad came up and told us the bad news that
he wouldn't be able to make it for the finals! So Mike Farrell, with the
help of his crew chief Mike Joyce, was the winner for the second head's up
race. Mike tried making a final pass, but had a little car trouble also
and had to call it a night.
In the
Street Bike Shootout Brad Yoder was the number one qualifier on his 89'
Suzuki GSXR with an impressive 8.016 at 175.35. But Brad's time also go
better as the night went on. In second place in qualifying was Shane
Ratliff's 01' Hayabusa with an 8.278 at 177.13. They had two qualifying
round then into eliminations they went. During first round of eliminations
most of the drivers all had eight second passes some getting close to the
seven second mark. The number one qualifier Bud Yoder came out first with
his bye run and cut a .623 reaction and finished with a 8.210. Then it was
number 5 qualifier Lee Stimac against the number 2 qualifier Shane
Ratliff. Tree came down and Les was too early with a .153 red light start
advancing Shane into round two. Next pair up was number 7 qualifier Mark
Pashew against number 4 qualifier. Both took off the line and Rick caught
Mark down track going through first and advancing with a 9.790. Then it
was Tom Gillikin against Phil Stoll. Phil came all the way from Chicago,
Illinois for the race and he came to impress. Tom had trouble on the
starting line not being able to finish, but Phil went on and stopped the
clocks at 8.065 at 167.21. Round two we saw the first 7 second pass of the
night during the first pair. It was Bud Yoder against Phil Stoll. Tree
came down and Bud cut a .493 light and took the lead and winning time with
a whopping 7.923 at 174.53!! Next pair was
Shane Ratliff against Rick Livy. Shane took the lead from the start
chopping down the tree with a .560 against Rick's .750 reaction. Shane
went through first with a 8.276 at 167.29 and after Rick realized what
happened just coasted down to the top end. Down to the finals it was
number 1 qualifier Bud Yoder against the number 2 qualifier Shane Ratliff.
The anticipation was building and both both Suzuki's lined up in the
staging beams. Tree came down and Shane left first with a .529 light. But
at the 1/8th mile Bud caught Shane and flew through the finish line taking
the winning spot at a 7.994 at 174.47 against
Shane's et time of 9.283 coasting through.
At the
end of the night in the Team Z Motorsports Head's Up race it was Mike
Farrell taking this weeks winning spot and Bud Yoder winning the Street
